COSMIC PAINTING AWARDS

2025 EDITION OFFICIAL RULES

On 4 - 5 - 6 April 2025 at Bologna Fiere during the PLAY Festival del Gioco the Sixth Edition of the now renamed Cosmic Painting Awards will be held, as usual including a painting school with cool awards!

The competition has the ambitious goal of imbuing the event with the spirit of Play, emphasising the most engaging aspects for the audience and participants, who are willing to get involved through daily contests.

The competition is divided into the following categories:

• Master
• Standard
• Nuove Leve (Newcomers)

Several events will be dedicated to the Newcomers, involving the ‘School’ in this challenge, for which winners will be awarded prizes each day.

Within each category, the jury will award different Gold, Silver and Bronze prizes following the Open formula. Each participant may enter in their preferred category; at the sole discretion of the jury, participants' pieces may be moved up a category, but only for the better:

• from Nuove Leve to Standard 
• from Nuove Leve to Master 
• from Standard to Master

Each participant may submit one or more miniatures, which will be judged and possibly rewarded. Each participant may submit pieces, which shall be evaluated for the category ‘Play’. The scale of the single playing figure shall be from 1/56 upwards, i.e. 28 mm; smaller models are not eligible for any category.

Play Award ‘Da Gioco’
A piece submitted by participants will be awarded. Each piece must be in 1/56 scale (28/32 mm), and must come from a board game, wargame or otherwise have been produced for a game that is already marketed at the time; self-produced models will not be accepted, but modifications of no more than 30% of the original miniature, brought in as a reference - in physical format, or on paper (photograph or clearly legible image) - are acceptable.

 
Special prizes (Best of)

• SINGLE MINIATURE: Best model no larger than 75mm presented on a gaming or display base, of any sci-fi or fantasy theme. The category also includes miniatures of characters with mounts (horses, other land or flying animals, etc.) and ridden vehicles (motorbikes, flying motorbikes, robots, etc.).
• ACTION SCENE - DIORAMA: Best group consisting of 2+ models in a diorama that can measure from 10x10cm up to 30x30cm, no theme limit.
• VEHICLE: Best model larger than 50mm with a game base or display base. Land or flying vehicles, transports or bipods are allowed.
• MONSTER: Best model over 75mm with a playing or display base. The category also includes character miniatures with mounts (dragons, large monsters, other land or flying animals, etc.) or vehicles (robots, aeroplanes, etc.)
• TEAM: Best group of at least 5 models, in game scales min 1/56 (28/32 mm).
• BEST OF SHOW (Best Master): Best model or display for the Master category.
• BEST STANDARD: Best model or display for the Standard 2025 category.
• BEST NUOVE LEVE: Best model or display for the Newcomers 2025 category.

Daily 'School' Award

At the War Pit, painting workshops/schools will be organised. Participants will be provided with miniatures, brushes, paints and the support of a tutor who will follow each participant of the School free of charge. The painted miniatures will remain to the participants. Among the pieces produced each day, which will be exhibited from 5.30 p.m. onwards and placed in the categories described above, prizes will be awarded at 7 p.m. each day for Gold, Silver and Bronze for each category.

PARTICIPATION RULES
Entry is free of charge and each participant may enter miniatures in each category in the competition. To avoid unpleasant accidents, each participant is requested to ensure that each component is correctly glued and/or fixed.
Pre-registrations must be made by 4 April 2025 with a list of projects (name of models, category of entry and, of course, name of artist) by sending an e-mail with the subject line ‘Entry Cosmic Painting Awards 2025’ to the following e-mail addresses martinelli.francesco2000@gmail.com, op@cosmicgroup.it e domenico.reggio@ludolabo.com

It will in any case also be possible to enter models directly at the contest stand at the fair.

Models must be delivered by the artist to the Contest stand from 10 a.m. on 4 April 2025 until 1 p.m. on 6 April 2025. The award ceremony will take place on 6 April.

The jury will be composed of figures from different fields: Journalists, Graphic Designers, Sculptors, Painters, Artists, and a Representative of Cosmic Group, promoter and sponsor of the contest. The judges' final verdict is final. Models may be collected after the prize-giving and at the end of the event until the end of the event.

During the days of the contest, there will be workshops, and other events dedicated to all aspects, from design to the creation of miniatures, painting techniques and others related to the world of miniatures.
